Tunisia’s Historic IESF World Championship Gold Medal in Hearthstone
Out of 54 national teams that have ever won medals at the International Esports Federation World Championships, Tunisia etched its name into history with one unforgettable achievement.
At the IESF World Championship 2014 in Baku, Tunisian player Amine Ben Messaoud delivered one of the most iconic moments ever seen in Arab and African esports by winning the gold medal in Hearthstone.
At just 15 years old, “Las3ed” stepped onto the world stage against elite international competitors during the early golden era of Hearthstone, a time when the discipline was dominated by some of the biggest names in competitive gaming. Despite his age and limited international experience, the Tunisian prodigy played with confidence far beyond his years, overcoming top-tier opponents and capturing the world title.
On his road to the championship, Amine Ben Messaoud eliminated several renowned names in the competitive Hearthstone scene, including Dima Radu, considered one of the best players in the game, with a dominant 3-0 victory.
He later faced Austria’s representative Yhone in the Grand Final, where the Tunisian teenager sealed the title with an impressive 4-2 win in a best-of-seven series to become IESF World Champion.
Alongside the historic gold medal, Amine Ben Messaoud also secured a $5,000 cash prize, a major accomplishment for a 15-year-old player competing on one of the biggest international esports stages at the time.
With that victory, Tunisia became the first and only African and Arab nation to win an IESF world championship gold medal.
More than a decade later, the achievement still stands as one of the greatest accomplishments in Tunisian esports history. A teenager from Tunisia walked into one of the biggest international esports stages and left with a gold medal for his country, a moment that continues to inspire players across the region today.
